The Iowa Association of Building Maintenance Engineers is the professional organization of building maintenance personnel throughout the state of Iowa, organized in 1933 as the Iowa Association of Custodians and Assistants, which promotes, conducts, and sponsors educational programs to benefit building maintenance personnel in today's business and educational industry.
The motto of IABME is "For Better Education." Our motto represents the important position of building maintenance personnel involved with the educational program throughout the state of Iowa and our own personal continuing education to become more efficient in our vocation and be recognized as professional building maintenance engineers who serve educational, medical, health, business, and industrial facilities.
IABME promotes annually a number of classes taught by the Iowa Area Community Colleges on boiler operation & maintenance, building maintenance, and industrial housekeeping maintenance technology. These classes are conducted throughout the state of Iowa for the building maintenance profession.
IABME publishes the trade newsletter "Iowa Building Maintenance News," the only newsletter devoted to Iowa building maintenance personnel.
IABME provides instructional textbooks, brochures, videos, and films available for use in the classroom as study guides for quality education.
IABME administers a Voluntary Certification Program for boiler operation, refrigeration and air-conditioning, electrical principles, building maintenance, and industrial housekeeping.
IABME sponsors a maintenance school held one week every summer in Ames, IA, consisting of certification classes as well as one day seminars.
IABME membership entitles each member to membership in a local chapter where members can share knowledge and problems with others at monthly meetings held throughout the year. IABME helps obtain programs for local chapter meetings.
IABME is constantly searching for methods and materials to help make building maintenance personnel more proficient in their chosen profession.
